We're Glasgow Marrow - and we're here to scout out every potential lifesaver on campus.

OUR MISSION?

To cure blood cancer by finding selfless volunteers willing to donate their blood stem cells or bone marrow to people in desperate need of lifesaving transplants.

CAN I HELP?

If you're aged 16-30 and weigh over 50kg, you can be a potential lifesaver by joining the Anthony Nolan stem cell register. Around 1 in 100 students we sign up goes on to donate. Transplants must come from close genetic matches, so more people on the register means better chances for those in need.

Can't donate blood? You may still be able to join the register.

WAIT - DOES IT HURT?

There's a misconception that donating bone marrow is painful. 90% of donors donate via PBSC - a simple process similar to dialysis. You might experience mild u-like symptoms, but these pass quickly.

Even for the 10% who donate via bone marrow extraction, this is carried out while asleep under general anaesthetic. A lot of donors say the recovery is no worse than what you might experience after a tough session at the gym.

Your body replaces the donated cells quickly.
